An overnight storm that slammed the region with powerful wind gusts forced a Northern Westchester school district to implement a two-hour delay after buses were unable to reach some students. The Valhalla Union Free School District was forced to operate on a two-hour delay on Thursday, Feb. 29 as a result of downed trees and power lines that blocked several bus routes in the hamlet, officials announced. Here's How Many Are Still Without Power After Damaging Winds Sweep Through Long Island
Utility crews on Long Island worked through the night to make repairs on hundreds of reported power outages that left thousands of area residents in the dark overnight. PSEG Long Island is still working on active outages more than 24 hours after wind storms downed trees and power lines, causing outages throughout the region. As of around midday Tuesday, Nov. 3, the 28 outages were impacting 146 of PSEG’s Long Island customers - 12 in Nassau, 132 in Suffolk. Wind Storm Knocks Out Power In Westchester
Thousands in Westchester have been left without power as wind storms with gusts topping 55 miles per hour downed wires and sent tree branches flying. As of just before 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, Con Edison crews were working to repair 36 outages that were impacting 2,007 of the utility company’s 360,045 customers. An additional 221 of NYSEG’s 33,290 customers in Northern Westchester were also in the dark. Video: Tree Limb Crashes Onto Wires On Route 306 Amid Gusty Winds After Storm
Route 306 had to be temporarily closed in Ramapo during the wind storm when a tree limb crashed onto wires, sending sparks flying. On Thursday, Oct. 17, the Ramapo Police Department closed Route 306 between Viola Road and Fessler Drive while Orange and Rockland Utility crews made repairs to wires that were arching after a tree limb toppled them. The incident caused outages in the area for approximately 30 minutes while the repairs were being made. Wind gusts of nearly 60 mph sent tree limbs flying and toppled power lines throughout the area.
