Company Fined After Pottstown Flagger Killed At Lancaster Construction Site: Osha A Berks County company has been fined after a construction flagger was killed in a 2024 crash in Lancaster County, federal officials announced. Linetta Wells, 56, of Pottstown, died on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, when an SUV struck her as she directed traffic at Stone Mill and Plymouth roads in Manor Township around 7:38 a.m., according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. She was pronounced dead at the scene one hour later, the office said. Wells was employed by Wexcon, Inc., a utility contracting company based in Centre Township. Tree Takes Down Power Lines, Sparks Fires, Knocks Out Traffic Lights In Paramus: Police A large borough tree came crashing down in Paramus on Friday, July 25, bringing utility wires and three utility poles down with it, police said. The incident occurred at 32 Farview Ave., where fallen wires sparked a fire in the roadway and ignited a small grass fire, according to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti. As of press time, more than 600 residents were without power. Emergency crews from the Paramus Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene and immediately shut down traffic. Gas Leak Closes Part Of William Penn Highway: Palmer Twp. PD (Developing) A major gas leak prompted evacuations in Palmer Township, authorities said. The incident occurred shortly before noon on Thursday, Aug. 8. Both lanes of travel on William Penn Highway were closed as a result of the leak between Stones Crossing Road and Sheridan Drive, police said. The evacuation covered an area of more than 100 yards, they said. Emergency services and utility company crews were at the scene.

"At this point, we do not believe this is a hate crime but a rope that was put up by a utility company (Verizon, Optimum, etc.) to help with utility wires that had been down in the area," Sgt. Gas Line Struck, Causing Route 59 Closure Contractors struck a natural gas line on Route 59 in Monsey, causing part of the roadway to be closed to traffic, according to Ramapo Police. The incident took place around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday in front of 156 Route 59, police said. The road is closed from Augusta Avenue to Remsen Avenue with a detour set-up to guide drivers.  The utility company is on the scene to make repairs. This is a developing story.
