A Fairfax County man who gunned down a complete stranger while firing into a car carrying his estranged wife will now spend the next three decades in prison, prosecutors announced.
Kyjuan Trott-McLean, 45, was sentenced to 43 years in prison for the 2022 shooting that left 31-year-old Brandon Wims dead in Alexandria, Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano said Friday, April 4.
On Oct. 2, 2022, Trott-McLean spotted his estranged wife, Kezia Leckey, sitting in a parked car with her friend Sapphire Lawrence and Wims outside an apartment building on St. Gregory Lane, prosecutors said.

The mother who killed her two children in Virginia is expected to face decades in prison after being convicted of multiple felonies last week, Fairfax County State’s Attorney Steve Descano announced on Monday, March 27.
Veronica Youngblood, 37, was sentenced to up to 78 years in prison by a jury for killer her two daughters in 2019, according to officials, after she was convicted of multiple counts of first-degree murder and weapons charges.
On Aug. 5, 2018, prosecutors said that Youngblood shot her daughters Sharon Castro, 15, and Brooklyn Youngblood, 5, in their McLean apartment.

Gunman Gets Maximum Sentence For Killing Two Fairfax High School Classmates
A Northern Virginia man who was found guilty of killing two teens at a Springfield home in 2021 has received the maximum sentence, much to the chagrin of some in the community.
Zachary Burkard, now 20, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitted to shooting South County High School classmates Ersheen Elaiaiser, 17, and Calvin Van Pelt, 16, in April 2021, according to multiple reports.
He received 10 years each for voluntary manslaughter for the deaths of the teens. When he is released, Burkard will face an additional three years of post-release supervision.
