A Bergen County woman admitted to embezzling more than $544,000 from a residential senior housing facility where she worked, federal officials announced.
Elaine Benanti, 69, of Garfield, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo on Tuesday, Jan. 20, to embezzling, stealing, and obtaining by fraud more than $544,000 from the Maywood Senior Citizens Housing Corporation, which operates Lydecker Manor in Maywood, according to Senior Counsel Philip Lamparello.

Man Busted Selling Fentanyl At Senior Housing Complex In Capital Region, Police Say
A man from the region is accused of selling hard drugs, including fentanyl, at a senior housing facility.
Rensselaer County resident Dwayne Lee, age 34, of Troy, was arrested Tuesday, June 18, after deputies executed a search warrant at the John F. Kennedy Towers senior living development on 6th Avenue in Troy.
According to sheriff’s officials, Lee was found in possession of 40 grams of cocaine and fentanyl, along with packaging materials, scales, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Three-Alarm Fire Destroys Senior Housing Complex In Northern Westchester
A three-alarm fire destroyed a senior housing complex under construction in Northern Westchester.
The blaze, which was so intense it required some 100 firefighters, was reported around 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8, at 1847 Crompond Road, in Peekskill.
The Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps, who also responded to the fire, said the fire was so intense and massive that embers from it were found throughout various areas of the city, including melting some items in a neighbor's yard.
