NY Law Raising Legal Age To Purchase Tobacco Products Takes Effect
Older teenagers in New York will officially no longer be able to purchase tobacco or e-cigarette products. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the legislation into law on Tuesday, July 16 that raises the minimum sales age for tobacco and e-cigarette products from 18 to 21. The Connecticut State Department of Public Health has confirmed that the fourth case of measles has been confirmed this year, this time in a school-age child from Fairfield County. "The public health investigation of this case has determined that the child was not infectious while at school," the department said Friday, Oct. 25. Shoppers in Westchester will be spending a little more after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill to increase sales tax in county municipalities. Cuomo signed the Westchester Property Tax Payer Protection Act on Sunday, June 30, which will increase sales tax by 1 percent - up to 8.375 - in the county’s 20 villages, 19 towns, and the cities of Peekskill and Rye.
