A 33-year-old man faces felony charges after allegedly assaulting a deputy during a DWI stop in Putnam County, authorities said.
The incident began around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, when a deputy pulled over a vehicle for speeding on Route 22 near Haviland Hollow Road (Route 68) in Patterson, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced.
The driver, later identified as Paul J. Cheque-Tacuri, 33, of Patterson, was suspected of being drunk, authorities said.

The initiative took place on Tuesday, March 18, and involved compliance checks at 16 retail locations across the county, New York State Police said on Wednesday, March 19.

Driver Escapes Injury After Hitting Pole, Flipping Vehicle On Route 22, Police Say
A Hudson Valley man escaped injury after he lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole.
The crash took place around 7:20 a.m., Friday, June 4, in Putnam County, on Route 22 in Patterson, said Trooper AJ Hicks.
Byron R. Duarte Giron, age 23, of Dover, was driving a 2010 Mazda southbound when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a pole and overturned, said Trooper AJ Hicks.
Route 22 has reopened.
No charges will be filed in the case.
