Six people had to be pulled from the fast-moving Rappahannock River this week during two back-to-back rescues in Fredericksburg, officials said. It started around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, when crews responded to a water rescue in the 300 block of Riverside Drive, according to the Fredericksburg Fire Department. When first responders arrived alongside Stafford County Fire & Rescue, they found four paddlers stranded near the backside of Ficklen Mill Island. Kayaker Airlifted After Plunging Over Great Falls Of Potomac River, Officials Say
A kayaker was airlifted to a hospital after being rescued from the Potomac River in Great Falls Park on Thursday, May 16, officials in Montgomery County said. The county's fire and rescue squad was dispatched to the river in reports of a kayak that went over the Maryland Falls at 6:20 p.m., a spokesperson for the department said. One kayaker self-extricated on the Virginia side. Paterson Swimmer, 19, Goes Missing At Delaware Water Gap
Crews were continuing to search for a 19-year-old swimmer who went missing at the Delaware Water Gap. Witnesses said the Paterson man was trying to swim from the shoreline to the bridge abutments with three others when he began struggling in the current around 8 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at Karamac — located about a mile north of Route 80, in Warren County, officials said.
