Winter Storm Alert: Maryland, Virginia Brace For Snow, Arctic Freeze Maryland and Virginia residents are preparing for a possibly significant winter storm that is expected to deliver heavy snowfall and dangerously low temperatures starting Sunday afternoon according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Forecasters warn that snow accumulation in the region could range from four to eight inches, with the heaviest snowfall expected during the afternoon and evening hours.  The NWS Baltimore-Washington office tweeted, "A winter storm will impact the region Sunday with accumulating snow likely. Big Dipper: Cold Front Will Bring Showers, Sharp Drop In Temps An approaching cold front will bring a dramatic change in the weather pattern following a springlike start to the weekend. Clouds are on the increase in the morning Sunday, March 31 ahead of the cold front's arrival.
