Torrential rain and severe lightning hampered firefighters as they worked a two-alarm fire Thursday at a popular tennis club. The call came in around 4:30 p.m. Thursday for the fire at the Amackassin Club at 557 Palisade Ave. in Yonkers, said Yonkers Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Fitzpatrick. A lightning strike on Lake Mahopac sent three people out boating to the hospital and slightly injured another. The incident took place around 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 4 when Putnam County Sheriff's Sgt. Matthew Monroe of the department's Marine Patrol Unit responded to a report of an occupied disabled boat on Lake Mahopac, the department said. Home Catches Fire After Lightning Strike In Putnam
A house struck by lightning in Putnam County during a thunderstorm on Wednesday was saved by firefighters with the Putnam Valley Volunteer Fire Department. The storm, which occurred around 4:30 p.m., sent lighting flying into the side of a home on Old Stone House Road in Putnam Valley, the fire department said on Facebook.
