Street Fight Turns Deadly, Lancaster Killer Convicted After Two Mistrials: DA
A Lancaster man who gunned down another man during a street confrontation has been convicted of first-degree murder, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday, April 30.
Wilberto Melendez, 48, formerly of the 700 block of Rockland Street, shot William Earl Cooper Jr., 31, after an escalating series of arguments early on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, prosecutors said.
The dispute ended on the 300 block of South Marshall Street, where Melendez fired four shots, hitting Cooper in the chest and abdomen. Cooper died hours later at a local hospital.

A Lancaster teen who lured an 11-year-old to a late-night meeting and pulled a gun on them during a botched robbery near a local elementary school has been sentenced to state prison, authorities announced on Feb. 14, 2025.
Jadriel Perez-Quinones, 17, of the 800 block of South Duke Street, was sentenced to two-and-a-half to six years in state prison after pleading guilty on Jan. 27 to robbery, firearms not to be carried without a license, and possession of a firearm by a minor, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

Attempted Rape, Burglaries By Lancaster Parolee Lead To State Prison Sentence
A Lancaster man who broke into two homes on the same day, attempting to rape one of the residents, has been sentenced to state prison, the Lancaster District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday, Jan. 27.
Mohamed Camara, 33, of the 500 block of St. Joseph Street, was sentenced to 6.5 to 15 years in state prison by Judge Thomas Sponaugle after pleading guilty on Friday to burglary, attempted rape, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, and theft by unlawful taking, according to the DA’s office.
