Sprinklers Help Contain Fire At MD HS; Students, Staff Evacuated
Fire sprinklers came to the rescue of a Harford high school when a blaze broke out on Tuesday afternoon before dismissal. Crews from the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company were called to Joppatowne High School at approxiamtely 2 p.m. on Tuesdayay 16, where students and staff evacuated after a fire was reported, sending smoke through parts of the building. Officials said that fire sprinklers knocked down most of the flames, and responding firefighters were able to finish the job and begin ventilating the building of the smoke. Health officials in Harford County are cautioning the community that a case of active tuberculosis was reported in Joppatowne High School. An alert was issued by the Harford County Health Department and Maryland Department of Health on Monday, April 24, advising that the agencies are working together with the local school district to investigate the reported case.
