Work Begins On Affordable Apartments In Hudson Valley
Construction has begun to rehabilitate 212 affordable apartments in three cities and towns in the Hudson Valley. According to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, all three properties are in Ulster County in the cities of Kingston and Saugerties and the town of Ulster. Delays from the state Department of Education have forced a Hudson Valley school district to close an elementary school for a year. The school, Fort Montgomery Elementary School, is located in Orange County. According to Superintendent of Schools Michael McElduff, the district submitted all required documentation for the extensive project review to the State Education Department. Firefighters took quick action after a malfunctioning boiler caused a carbon monoxide leak at a Hudson Valley elementary school. The incident took place Monday, Oct. 25, around 11:30 a.m. when an automatic fire alarm at Warring Elementary in the City of Poughkeepsie alerted firefighters to the problem. Refrigerant Leak Clears Fair Lawn HS
A refrigerant leak briefly cleared Fair Lawn High School Monday morning. The Freon leak, discovered around 8:30 a.m., was traced to an HVAC unit on the roof, which "caused a smoke condition on the second floor," one responder said. The building was ventilated and the all-clear was given to return shortly after 9 a.m. No injuries were reported. Coleytown Middle School May Not Open Before 2020
A Fairfield County middle school that was forced to shutter its doors in September due to mold concerns may not reopen for more than a year. A report from engineering firms Kohler Ronan, LLC and Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. that was recently returned found that Coleytown Middle School in Westport may not be able to safely reopen until January 2020 after the building was closed due to ongoing mold issues.
