Travelers are being warned to steer clear of two West African countries, as the US State Department issues its highest-level alerts due to escalating security threats.
On Thursday, Oct. 30, the State Department updated its Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisories for both Niger and Mali.
The warnings cite grave concerns, including crime, terrorism, kidnapping, civil unrest, and serious health risks.
"Do not travel to Niger for any reason due to crime, unrest, terrorism, health, and kidnapping," the advisory states.

Harlem’s Legionnaires’ outbreak is officially over, health officials said, after sickening over 100 people and killing seven.
Residents and visitors to Central Harlem are no longer at increased risk of contracting Legionnaires’ disease, the New York City Health Department announced Friday, Aug. 29. The last reported case connected to the cluster began showing symptoms on Saturday, Aug. 9.
