Hazmat Incident In Atlantic City: Developing
Police and firefighters were called to a hazardous materials incident in Atlantic City, according to developing and unconfirmed reports. The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 518 Magellan Ave., initial reports said. Ocean County Library Evacuated, Hazmat Units Respond
The main branch of the Ocean County Library in Toms River was evacuated and closed Thursday afternoon because of a hazardous materials incident, police said. A malfunctioning backup battery for the Washington Street library's computer system caused noxious odors that triggered a hazmat response, Toms River police said. "Earlier this afternoon there was an odor in the basement that turned out to be a battery malfunction issue," police announced on Twitter. Oil Truck Crashes Down Embankment, Causing Fuel Leak In Area
An oil tanker crashed down an embankment, causing a fuel leak that firefighters are still busy soaking up. The crash took place around 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, in Putnam Valley on Hollowbrook Road, officials said. The driver was not injured, but firefighters with the Putnam Valley Department are using absorbent pads to stop the oil from leaking into the nearby Hollow Brook, the department said. Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department and Montrose VA Fire Department and the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services Hazmat Team assisted with the call.

Lodi Bus Rider, 69, Injured By Chemical, Authorities Say
A bus passenger in Lodi had to hospitalized after she sat on what responders said was drain cleaner. The 69-year-old New York woman boarded the 164 bus near the corner of Essex Street and Maywood Avenue around 2:20 p.m. Sunday, sat down and immediately notified the driver of an injury, authorities said. Apparently “some type of liquid” on the seat “was causing a reaction on her leg,” NJ Transit’s Jim Smith said.
