Get set for a pre-Memorial Day weekend splash. A round of strong, isolated storms with gusty winds will sweep through the area later in the afternoon and into the evening on Thursday, May 23. The main time frame for storm activity will be from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Some of the storms could be locally severe, the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Statement issued early Thursday morning. A round of strong thunderstorms could sweep through parts of the area on a warm and muggy day on Sunday, May 19. It will be partly sunny with a high in the low to mid 70s and an increase in humidity during the day. The storm system will arrive in the tristate area late Sunday afternoon, with strong thunderstorms possible late Sunday afternoon and evening, especially in areas north and west of New York City. Strong Thunderstorm Sweeping Through Area
A strong thunderstorm moving through the area will affect Northern Westchester, Putnam and Fairfield counties on Thursday afternoon. The storm, moving west to east, was located over Mount Kisco, just before 3 p.m. moving northeast at 35 mph. Wind gusts in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with this storm. Get ready for a stormy evening commute on Tuesday.A cold front passing through the area is expected to bring thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, potentially damaging winds with large hail also possible, the National Weather Service says.
