World's Coral Reefs Could Collapse By 2075, Scientists Warn In Urgent Report Nearly all of the world's coral reefs could collapse within the next 50 years as rising ocean temperatures threaten marine life and coastal communities, according to a major new scientific report. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) released its first worldwide coral reef assessment on Thursday, Oct. 22.
