US Veteran Hospitalized After Fire Consumes Southeast Home
A two-alarm house fire in Putnam County damaged a residence and prompted a massive response on Thursday afternoon, April 17. The fire broke out at around 12:45 p.m. at a home on Seven Oaks Lane in Southeast, according to the Brewster Fire Department. Brewster Fire Chief Michael Miller was first on scene and confirmed a working structure fire, immediately requesting a second alarm. The homeowner, an elderly US military veteran, was inside the home at the time of the blaze but managed to escape without injury. Brewster EMS later took him to Danbury Hospital for observation.…

Overheating Cords Burn Fingers, Sparking Large Recall Of Night Lights Sold At Five Below
A popular bear-shaped night light sold at Five Below has been recalled after reports of cords melting, causing burned fingers and scorching furniture. Five Below issued the recall for about 29,000 Room2Room LED Iridescent Bear Lights, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday, April 3. The night light has a USB power switch that can overheat and melt, creating fire and burn hazards. The CPSC said the company received 28 reports of overheating. Downed Wires In Ridgewood Trap 15-Month-Old Toddler In SUV
A toddler had to remain in her car seat for more than an hour after live wires downed by a broken tree limb fell across her parents' SUV in Ridgewood. The 15-month-old girl's mom talked with her from outside the vehicle before a PSE&G tech cut the power to the lines Friday and the child was removed safely. Responders included firefighters and police -- among them, Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke.

Franklin Lakes Driver Killed By Live Wire Identified As Wanaque Dad
A Wanaque father has been identified as the driver who was incinerated Thursday morning by a live utility wire in Franklin Lakes. Anthony Gonzalez, a father of three, died after driving around traffic cones and trying to move a downed wire in that was blocking Summit Avenue near the intersection of Route 208 just before 9 a.m., authorities said. Jackie Milnes of Fair Lawn, who works with Gonzalez' wife as a teacher, started a GoFundMe for the family. The site had raised nearly $500 as of mid Thursday afternoon. CHECK BACK FOR MORE DETAILS
