A high school in Dutchess County was forced to dismiss students early after a student-issued Chromebook began smoking inside a classroom, school officials said. The incident happened around 8:50 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappingers Falls, according to Superintendent Dr. Dwight Bonk of the Wappingers Central School District. A homecoming high school football game in the region was postponed because of a threat of gun violence. The threat was received several hours before the varsity contest in Dutchess County between rivals John Jay of East Fishkill and host Roy C. School officials in the Hudson Valley are warning of "concerning" interactions between an individual and students off-campus of a high school. A familiar face will be at the helm of the Wappingers School District going forward following a unanimous vote by the Board of Education.
