Rescuers Save Dog Caught In Tide In Hereford Inlet, Firefighters Say A dog was rescued from an inlet in Cape May County, officials said. The Stone Harbor and North Wildwood fire departments responded to the Hereford Inlet for a water rescue at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, the Stone Harbor firefighters union said in a Facebook post. Firefighters received a report that a dog named Bruno was swimming far from shore and in distress. A boat crew went to the inlet and quickly found Bruno struggling to swim in the tide. Amherst Dog Park Breaks Ground On South Landfill The Amherst Dog Park broke ground today, July 22, at the South landfill site on Old Belchertown Road. The park will consist of 2.5 acres. The South landfill site was selected because the town already owns the land and its conveniently close to Route 9, according to town documents. The park will provide areas for both large and small dogs, shade, and water stations, the Dog Park Task Force announced. Construction is expected to cost between $244,000 and $280,000. Ryan Schwertfeger was in eighth grade when he came up for the idea of a dog park in Oakland with his mother, Jill. Schwertfeger, now 25, decided to continue the project in an effort to honor the memory of his mother, who died of cancer in 2012.  He raised more than $37,000 in cash as well as $48,000 in pledged donations and recently received approval for the park from the Oakland Town Council. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the Armory Park on Gregory Avenue on July 21 at 3 p.m. The PetSafe® Armory Memorial Dog Park was made possible through the PetSafe® Bark for Your Park™ program, a grant program that provides funding to create safe, off-leash dog parks nationwide.
