Newark Code Enforcement Officer Admits To Taking Bribes: AG
A 51-year-old Newark woman pleaded guilty to taking bribes to overlook code violations, authorities announced Friday, June 26. Sonia Rogers pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery, New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said. As part of a plea agreement, she is expected to sentenced to 364 days in jail, followed by probation, Davenport said. Rogers ordered the closure of a retail establishment, threatened to fine the owners, and requested bribes of cash and free store merchandise in exchange for reopening the store and not levying the threatened fines, Davenport said.
