Rooftop HVAC Short Clears Hackensack Staples
A rooftop air conditioning unit malfunctioned at a Staples store in Hackensack mid-Tuesday afternoon. The store was emptied while city firefighters tended to a burnt transformer in the HVAC unit at the Hackensack Avenue store just off Route 4. "Companies ventilated and the store was turned back over to the building owner," the Hackensack Fire Department said. "No injuries." Englewood Girl, 8, Hospitalized As Precaution After Ceiling Plaster Falls In Home
A chunk of plaster that fell from a living-room ceiling Friday afternoon sent an 8-year-old Englewood girl to the hospital as a precaution, authorities said. The Waldo Place girl sustained a leg injury with no fractures after the falling 2-by-2-foot piece hit her just before 2:30 p.m., Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said. First responders were dispatched to the Scarsdale Ridge condominium complex on Thursday afternoon when a motorist drove a car into one of the buildings.
