Downed Tree, Wires Close Route 36 Stretch In Carmel
A stretch of Route 36 in Putnam County is closed to traffic thanks to a downed tree and wires in the road. The closure of Drewville Road (Route 36) between Stoneleigh Avenue and West Shore Drive was announced by the Carmel Fire Department on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 3:15 p.m. According to the fire department, it is not yet known when the road will reopen. Fire officials are now working to extinguish a brush fire and remove the tree from the road with the help of NYSEG. This is a developing story. Check back to Daily Voice for updates.

Westport Bans All Outdoor Burning, Including Fire Pits
Even with the cool nights, Westport residents can forget about starting that fire pit now that all outside burning has been banned in the town. Westport Fire Marshal Terrence Dunn instituted the ban on Tuesday, May 16, on all outside burning until further notice due to extremely dry conditions. Power lines that fell across Route 208 closed the highway in both directions and ignited several small noontime brush fires. Man Charged With Setting Three Brush Fires In September Pleads Not Guilty
A man is being charged for setting three brush fires in late September. Henry P. Dextraze, 66, of New Hampshire, but formerly of Leominster, is believed to have inadvertently started three fires within days of each other this fall, according to the Sentinel and Enterprise. The fires happened on Sept. 20, 22, and 24 with the first two being small and in the Leominster State Forest around Elm Street. The last fire on Sept. 24 lit up an area of Mt.
