Sherrill: FIFA Should Pay For World Cup Transportation To MetLife Stadium
Gov. Mikie Sherrill believes New Jerseyians should not have to pick up for the tab for transporting people to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Instead, she wants FIFA, the event organizer, to pay their fair share. "We inherited an agreement where FIFA is providing $0 for transportation to the World Cup," Sherrill said. "And while NJ TRANSIT is stuck with a $48 million bill to safely get fans to and from games, FIFA is making $11 billion. I’m not going to stick New Jersey commuters with that tab for years to come." Sherill was responding to recent reporting, including by Daily Voice, that …

What Crackdown? Metro Fare Evaders Still Hitching Free Rides, Report Says
A stated threat to target Metropolitan Area Transit Authority train riders looking to hitch a free ride appears to be more smoke and mirrors than an actual crackdown, according to an NBC Washington report. Citing the issuance of less than 100 fare evasion tickets in the first two months of the Transit Authority’s purported crackdown, NBC reported that some commuters are questioning whether there is a large enough law enforcement presence at stations to really make a difference. According to the report, fare evaders cost the agency tens of millions of dollars annually, which prompted the cra…
