Drivers and pedestrians who frequent Duke Street will need to brace for major changes beginning this week, as a major infrastructure project begins in Alexandria. With the calendar turning over to a new year, the city announced that both the eastbound Duke Street to Van Dorn Street ramp and the Van Dorn Street to eastbound Duke Street ramp will be closed to all traffic through the beginning of August 2025. Scarsdale Train Station Gets New Elevator, Accessibility Improvements
A Metro-North station in Westchester has received a new elevator in addition to several other upgrades intended to improve access, parking, and amenities, officials announced. In an announcement on Thursday, Jan. 11, MTA officials announced the opening of a second elevator at the Scarsdale Metro-North Train Station. The new elevator is located in an enclosed tower that serves the Grand Central Station-bound platform. A series of planned improvements to a substation in the Hudson Valley is expected to reduce the number and severity of power outages in the area, officials said. Metro-North To Start Upgrading Parking Lots At Three Hudson Valley Stations
Metro-North Railroad has announced a series of parking lot upgrades at three Hudson Valley stations. MTA said upgrades will be made at the stations in Putnam County -- in Cold Spring -- and Dutchess County -- in Beacon, and New Hamburg -- in August and September. MTA said temporary closures and parking restrictions will be necessary as work is underway to create better drainage and install new pavement and pavement markings. Gas Main Replacement To Start In Fairfield's Beach Neighborhoods
Some of Fairfield County’s beach neighborhoods are getting a gas main replacement for the first time in more than seven decades. The Southern Connecticut Gas Company has issued an alert in Fairfield of its upcoming plans to upgrade the existing natural gas mains in the beach neighborhood. The project began on Monday, June 11 and it should be completed next spring. Officials noted that the existing mains in the area are typically more than 70 years old, are low pressure, and are cast iron pipes, which can be brittle.
