Authorities are providing more details after a chemical reaction inside a Westchester warehouse triggered a massive hazmat and fire response that temporarily shut down Metro-North service and forced nearby residents to evacuate. The incident began just after noon on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 143 Woodworth Ave. in Yonkers, according to Yonkers Police. Investigators said beauty supplies inside the warehouse spilled, causing a chemical reaction that ignited into a fire. Chemical Vapor Cloud, Third-Alarm Fire Prompts Hazmat Response At Yonkers Warehouse
This story has been updated. A chemical vapor cloud triggered a third-alarm fire response at a Westchester warehouse, city officials said. The incident happened at 134 Woodworth Ave. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at around 12:30 p.m., according to the Yonkers Fire Department and Deputy Director of Communications Lisa Reyes. Reyes said the chemical release created a vapor cloud that set off multiple alarms. The incident was isolated to one pallet of materials. Yonkers Mayor Shares Plans For New Media Arts School
A Westchester County community is offering students the chance to prepare for careers in media arts at a new school. Yonkers officials announced that the city and Yonkers Public Schools signed a 20-year lease to open a media arts middle and high school at the former Rising Ground property on Hawthorne Street in partnership with the new Great Point Studios that opened in the region. The largest city in New Jersey is about to get some major movie attention and it's going to need a big crew to keep it afloat. Newark Mayor Ras J.
