Due to the large metro centers on the New England/Northern East Coast, there's typically a lot of movement. The trend has tilted toward more people leaving than coming in, however, since at least the 1980s, according to data provided by national shipping company United Van Lines. A whopping 69% of all New Jersey residents who moved from March 1 to Aug. 19 relocated out of state, UniGroup reports. That’s just about 7 of every 10. A new study found that more residents left New Jersey than any other U.S. state in 2018. United Van Lines, a St. Louis-based moving company, found that  66.8 percent of New Jersey moves were outbound. Connecticut (62 percent) and New York (65 percent) were among the top 10 outbound states for the fourth consecutive year.
