An East Brunswick chef will bring a cooking award home for the holidays after appearing in a new culinary competition series. Maricel Gentile was named a holiday champion on "Buddy's Holiday Recipe Rumble", a competitive cooking show hosted by Hoboken native Buddy Valastro, who's also known as the "Cake Boss." A baker from Barnegat is close to possibly winning a huge prize in an online competition showcasing her treats. Jennifer Ennas-Ludewig is a quarterfinalist in "The Greatest Baker" competition held by Bake From Scratch Magazine. The winning baker will bring home $10,000 and get to share their work in the magazine. According to the contest website, Ennas-Ludewig was in first place as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17. Lucky North Jersey -- Carlo's Bakery locations in Ridgewood and Wayne remain open as others have closed one by one across New Jersey. The bakery, made famous by "Cake Boss" star Buddy Valastro, closed its Red Bank shop suddenly this week unexpectedly, after the Westfield shop shuttered in April.
