A longtime Morristown police lieutenant who spent more than 27 years serving the community has died, the Morristown Department of Public Safety announced.
Retired Lt. Matthew David Rawding, 64, of Morris Plains, died on Wednesday, Sept. 23, after what his department described as a "courageous fight." He was 64 years old.

Julia G. Egler, 18, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Kelley McCollom, 38, and Matthew Szejnrok, 22, at a hearing in Viera on Friday, Sept. 25, according to the Office of State Attorney William Scheiner. A Brick Township man accused of helping a Toms River murder suspect evade authorities has surrendered, officials said.
Ronald Hagan, 50, surrendered to the Toms River Township Police Department in the presence of his attorney Monday morning, Sept. 28, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

DWI Driver Strikes Marlboro Officer Directing Traffic, Police Say
A special police officer suffered a head injury after being struck by an alleged drunk driver while directing traffic at the Jersey Shore, authorities said.
The Marlboro officer was directing traffic near a disabled vehicle at Route 520 and Tennent Road around 7:28 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, when a white 2023 Audi Q7 struck them, Marlboro Township Police Capt. Jonathan Gramcko said.
