Man Seen Leaving Has Heights Route 17 Hotel With 'Shotgun' Had Loaded BB Rifle: Police
A report of a man walking out of a Route 17 hotel with what appeared to be a shotgun led to the arrest of an Indiana man on Monday, Aug. 31, authorities said.
Eric M. Smith, 42, of Elkhart, IN, was arrested at the Home2 Suites by Hilton on Route 17 South in Hasbrouck Heights, Hasbrouck Heights Police Capt. John Behr said.
Officers Perez, Thibault, Connors, and Detective Olivo were called to the hotel around 4:19 p.m. on a report of a man walking out of the lobby with a shotgun, Behr said.

Marcos Diaz, an Elizabeth native and devoted New York Mets fan, died Friday, Aug. 28, at 38 years old, according to his obituary on the Gorny & Gorny Funeral Home website.
Diaz was born Aug. 7, 1988, to Milagro and Rolando Diaz, and enjoyed baseball, going to the gym, and following sports, according to his obituary. A 100-unit apartment complex that is nearly fully occupied has changed hands in New Jersey.
Valley View Apartments, at 149 Katz Ave., in Paterson, was acquired by EOM Equity from Redwood Associates, an affiliate of Value Companies, JLL Capital Markets announced Tuesday, Sept. 1. A sale price was not disclosed.
Built in 1965, the complex has 76 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom apartments across 79,661 rentable square feet, JLL said. The property is 99% occupied.
