At 12:43 a.m., firefighters responded to a dwelling fire with possible entrapment at Narraticon Apartments at Narraticon Parkway and Merrimac Road and were met with a heavy fire, Union Fire Company #1 said. A second and third alarm were tolled to bring additional units to battle the blaze, firefighters said. At midnight, firefighters responded to Laurie Road in Landing and found a working fire in the garage and immediately tolled a second alarm, bringing additional firefighters to the scene, Roxbury Township Fire Department said. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading beyond the garage and into the living area of the home, fire officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Roxbury Fire Prevention Bureau, firefighters said.

Bird Rescued From Drain Pipe In Middle Twp A bird was rescued from a drain pipe in Middletown Township on Saturday, Aug. 29, authorities said. At 5:35 p.m., firefighters responded after a bird was discovered struck in a drainage culvert, Green Creek Fire Company said. The bird had been sucked from a creek, into a drain pipe, and into the culvert, firefighters said. Firefighters removed the top grate and utilized a fishing net to remove the cormorant, fire officials said. The bird was tired, though able to walk off on its own, firefighters said.
