Young Darien Squad Keeps the Bar Set High

DARIEN, Conn. — The Darien High School football team returned to the top of the conference in 2010, winning its first Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship in 11 years. But that seems like a distant memory at the onset of a new season, after the Blue Wave graduated 18 of the 22 starters. Combined with a tough schedule, Darien could hit a few pitfalls along the way in 2011.

In the video, head coach Rob Trifone discusses why he is keeping the bar high for his young squad. He also touches on what goes into preparing what is essentially a new team. Darien recently took on defending Class M state champion Hillhouse in a scrimmage. The young Blue Wave defense was in for a shock, taking on all-state running back Harold Cooper.

Darien begins its 2011 campaign at home against Fairfield Ludlowe on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1:30 p.m. The Blue Wave also host Trumbull, Wilton, Trinity Catholic and Bassick this season. The team makes trips to Fairfield Warde, St. Joseph, Danbury, a huge showdown against Staples and the annual Turkey Bowl at New Canaan.
