Officers were called around 7:30 p.m. on April 16 to Anacostia Park, where a boy was pulled from the river.
According to police, the child was rushed by US Park Police to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No additional details were initially released.
The apparent drowning is now under investigation by the department.
