YORKTOWN, N.Y. - With temperatures soaring into the mid-90s and humidity on the rise, Yorktown Supervisor Michael Grace opened the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center on Wednesday as a cooling center for residents.
The center at 1974 Commerce St. will remain open until 10 p.m. and is available to any town resident.
Residents are permitted to bring non-perishable food items but no pets are allowed.
Temperatures are expected to be just as uncomfortable on Thursday. A break is anticipated on Friday with thunderstorms predicted to bring more seasonable temperatures.
