Police said Washington was arrested following an investigation into the fraudulent use of credit/debit cards belonging to a person who had died in October of 2014.
The investigation revealed that Washington was employed by the Veterans Administration facility in Montrose, where the victim lived prior to his death, according to police. Washington was accused of making multiple fraudulent charges using the deceased person's credit/debit cards throughout the Westchester County area, police said. To date, the charges have exceeded $13,000, according to police.
The investigation into how the defendant obtained the victim's credit/debit cards and Social Security number is continuing with assistance from the Montrose VA police.
Washington was charged and arraigned in Cortlandt Town Justice Court. Washington was held at the Westchester County Jail without bail.
