Cross Hill Academy teacher Edwin Sández and Lincoln High School teacher Dr. Angela Arias have been named the Teachers of the Year and will be inducted into the Teacher Hall of Fame. “On behalf of Trustees of the Board, we congratulate these outstanding educators for their commitment to the District; most importantly, the students and families for whom they serve,” said Board President Dr. Nader J. Sayegh. “They are a testament to the talented faculty within our schools.” Schools superintendent Beard Pierorazio said, “These individuals are the epitome – the apex – of educators in our district.
“We thank them for being the role models that they are and extend our heartfelt gratitude for instilling within their students the confidence and knowledge to achieve.” The teacher recognition program has been an ongoing collaboration between the Board and the Kiwanis Club of Yonkers since 1955, and the Board formally established the Teacher Hall of Fame on July 13, 1978. The Administrator of the Year, or Leadership in Education award, was inaugurated in 1986 as a project of the Rotary Club of East Yonkers in association with the Yonkers Board of Education.
