Fairfield Warde's Mike Sullivan is seeded No. 1, while Greenwich's Ben Ceci, Stamford's Ben Pierre-Saint and New Canaan's Brian Khzouz are No. 2 seeds in this weekend's State Open wrestling championships. The tournament begins Friday at the New Haven Athletic Center.
Sullivan, a senior wrestling at 160 pounds, won the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference title and Class LL championships, and is undefeated on the season.
Ceci wrestles at 189, where Thomaston's Mark Dilley is the No. 1 seed. Ceci is the Class LL and FCIAC champion. His only two losses this year have come to New York opponents.
Pierre-Saint wrestles at 125, where Nonnewaug's Tyler Tilbe is seeded No. 1. Pierre-Saint is also an FCIAC and Class LL champion. Khzouz, wrestling at 145, is seeded behind Tyler Cunningham of Xavier. Khzouz won the Class L title last week, and lost to Stamford's Bryan Polonia in the FCIAC title match. Polonia is seeded 10th.
Other top seeds from Main Street Connect communities include Darien's Lars Remole, who is seeded third at 140; Norwalk's Brandon Riggins, seeded fourth at 189; Westhill's Pascal Medor, who is seeded fifth at 103; Weston's Carmine Magnoli, who is seeded sixth at 189; and Staples' Chris Giunta, who is seeded sixth at 215.
The complete seedings are at Connecticut Wrestling Online. The meet starts at 5 p.m. Friday and continues on Saturday. The championships will be held Saturday beginning at 7 p.m.
