The incident happened at the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station in Delta just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, according to the York County Advanced Technical Rescue Team.

Crews were dispatched around 6:44 a.m. for a high-angle rescue after a report of an employee experiencing a medical issue inside a security tower, the team said.

Rescue units confirmed the emergency upon arrival, with technicians from Wrightsville Fire sent to the top of the tower to begin operations.

The worker was secured in a harness and placed into a lowering system as additional technicians from Dover Township Fire assisted inside the tower, authorities said. The rescue was carried out through the interior stairwell of the structure.

The employee was successfully brought down without incident and turned over to EMS crews at the base of the tower.

The worker was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Constellation Energy confirmed the incident involved a security officer who had a “personal medical issue while on duty.”

“Established emergency response procedures were followed and with assistance from local first responders the officer was safely brought down from a security tower and transported to a local hospital,” the company said. “There was no impact to plant safety, security, or normal operations.”
