NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Work crews prepared the area of Burling Lane and Garden Street near North Avenue Tuesday for Thursday's official start date of the North Avenue Utility Relocation Project along the route.
Phase one of the work is set to begin Feb. 23 with minor closings on North Avenue. City officials said Burling Lane from North Avenue to May Street will also be closed to traffic, however, a pedestrian lane will remain open at all times.
The project is estimated to last 18 months, according to information from the city.
North Avenue will be affected, particularly the intersections of Burling Lane, Garden Street and Station Plaza North. Delays and detours are expected on these streets.
The project relocates electric, cable, telephone, water, fiber optic and natural gas lines from the North Avenue Bridge. These will be moved to another area constructed in 2010. This utility work is expected to be completed by May of next year depending on conditions.
