Following a partial ceiling collapse in August, students were temporarily displaced for two semesters to Holy Family School to start the year, forcing several parking changes in the vicinity to aid faculty members and increase student safety during the tumultuous time.
This week, with students back in class on Tuesday, city officials have begun removing signage on Mayflower Avenue, between Clove Road and Webster Avenue, and on Clove Road and Mount Joy from Mayflower to the end of school property. Additionally, police have been advised to begin enforcing the normal parking and traffic codes in the area, not the amended school signs.
It’s been a busy week for Webster students, parents and faculty members, as they enjoyed a second first day of school while celebrating the “Webster Way.”
The school only passed a thorough structural inspection and received a certificate of occupancy just days before Christmas. Air quality tests all came back indicating the school is free of contaminants and the Fire Marshall’s inspection was completed on Dec. 30, with a final walkthrough on Monday.
“(It was) a wonderful first day back home at Webster, (with) big smiles greeting every child,” school officials noted once their doors were reopened. “Everyone collaborated to ensure that students walked into bright, warm, inviting classrooms ready to learn.”
