The railroad underpass on the Post Road in downtown Darien was turned into a lake Friday afternoon, leading police to close it off from traffic. Drivers can still get around by taking West Avenue and Leroy Avenue.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Darien from 7 a.m. Friday to Saturday morning. The alert said that 1 1/2 to 2 inches of rain are expected Friday, and "the potential for brief heavy rainfall from embedded thunderstorms could further exacerbate rapid water rises across the watch area."
There is also a high wind advisory in effect until 11 p.m. Friday, with winds reaching between 23 and 26 mph, and gusts as high as 60 mph.
The weekend is expected to be just as miserable, with rain continuing through Monday. There is a chance of snow on Saturday night, Sunday night and Monday morning before becoming all rain by Monday afternoon.
