The storm that hit town Thursday afternoon lasted just minutes, but the wind brought down trees and power lines, forcing 20 roads to close.
Most of the damage was on Fanton Hill Road, Lyons Plain Road, Kellogg Hill Road and Old Easton Turnpike, according to Sgt. Matt Brodacki. A tree in front of the Norfield Congregational Church split and fell over Norfield Road, bringing down power lines and forcing traffic to be rerouted through the church parking lot. Brodacki said the damage topped the last big storm in Weston, which closed 17 roads.
Out of the 20 roads that were closed, 11 had live wires down, said Det. Carl Filsinger, who added that many others had wires hanging over the street. Filsinger said there were no known injuries or significant property damage, though many residents may be out of power for some time. "We have a few extra officers out there working," he said.
