Chipotle Mexican Grill will give away up to $1 million in free entrées during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, the chain announced in a news release on Thursday, July 16.
Defending champion Argentina will take on reigning European title-holder Spain at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 19. Chipotle's promotion will take place during the match's second official hydration break (pausa de hidratación for anyone watching on Telemundo).
Chipotle will post a video on its Instagram account challenging viewers to follow a lemonade-filled cup as three identical Chipotle water cups shuffle across the screen. At the end of the video, the lemonade-filled cup will reveal a text-to-win code, and the first 100,000 fans to text the code to 888-222 will receive a free entrée offer.
The giveaway is inspired by Chipotle's water cups and people who "accidentally" fill them with lemonade instead of water.
"The best brand ideas start with a fan truth," senior vice president of marketing Stephanie Perdue said. "Our water cup has become one of the most recognizable symbols in Chipotle fan culture, and when hydration breaks emerged as a new part of the matchday experience, we saw an opportunity to bring that fan lore to life on one of the biggest stages in sports."
Argentina is hoping to capture its fourth World Cup, and it would be the first nation to win back-to-back titles since Brazil in 1962. Legendary forward Lionel Messi is tied for the most goals in this World Cup with eight, while other La Albiceleste stars include Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez, Liverpool FC midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, and Aston Villa FC goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.
Spain is seeking its second World Cup trophy after winning in South Africa in 2010. La Furia Roja is led by 19-year-old FC Barcelona phenom Lamine Yamal, Manchester City FC midfielder Rodri, and Real Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal.
The giveaway follows Chipotle's buy-one-get-one-free promotion for customers wearing soccer jerseys in June. The company called that offer the biggest promotional day in its history.
Chipotle's free entrée codes will be valid through Friday, July 24.
