Wiltonians Learn How to Save Lives

When Megan Smith-Harris learned that a woman younger than herself had a heart attack and that CPR saved her life, she wanted to learn the first-aid procedure. Which is why she attended the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps hands-only CPR class on Sunday afternoon.

The class was one of two led by Chris Gardner and the rest of the WVAC, who taught Wilton employees and residents “2 Steps to Save a Life” at Westy’s Storage. The two steps — calling 911 and push hard and fast in the middle of the chest — were for hands-only CPR because people are hesitant to “lock lips,” Gardner says.

WVAC has announced four more classes due to the popularity of the previous two. They will be held at the Wilton Library on March 13 at 2 p.m., March 15 at 7:30 p.m., March 28 at 7:30 p.m. and April 4 at 7:30 p.m. Registration is required.
