Wilton Neighbors Notes

WILTON, Conn. -- Congratulations to the Wilton High School Class of 2011! Graduation was held on Saturday, June 25, inside a packed field house. The men wore Warrior blue caps and gowns, and the women looked lovely in their uniquely decorated Warrior white caps. In a personal WHS tradition, the graduates marched in and also received their diplomas with their own groups of friends instead of in alphabetical order. Two graduating seniors, Christopher Dehn and Sylvia Cunningham, announced the names of their classmates as each came forward to receive a diploma. Austin Schaefer, valedictorian, and Jackie Saltarelli, executive board president, were among several of the graduates who addressed the crowd. It was an emotional two hours, and after the ceremony, the graduates celebrated with family and then headed to the Post Graduation Party at Middlebrook School. The theme for the PGP is always a secret, and this year it was “Now Boarding: The Class of 2011's Excellent Adventure." Annbeth Lattimer and Ellen Willis, co-chairs of the Class Project 2011 along with many other parents, worked tirelessly over the past few years to make the PGP a success. The PGP was a sensational ending to an unforgettable day.

People are talking about … Wilton High School’s ranking as the best public high school in Connecticut. In a recent edition, Newsweek Magazine printed its own list of America’s 500 best high schools, and Wilton High School is listed as number 141, the highest-ranked school in our state. Go to Newsweek magazine's website to view the list.

People are also talking about … morning coffee! Starbucks was recently re-modeled and has re-opened with a stylish new décor featuring dark wood tones and a revamped serving area. Is the spacious new feel due to the elimination of tables in a place where seating is at a premium during peak morning hours? In recent months, two other spots have appeared in Wilton, Steve’s Bagels, which offers coffee in addition to bagels and other menu items, and BabyCat Milkbar. BabyCat is located at the intersection of route 33 and 7 in the Wilton Historical Connection and is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. It features a selection of teas, coffee, milk and baked items from local distributers. According to owner and Wilton resident Frank Kwei, BabyCat Milkbar is a temporary venture. Current plans call for it to be open through July. It will close in August and then re-open in September.
