Wilton Neighbors Notes

The Wilton Steel Band under the leadership of Arthur Lipner is quickly becoming one of the town's premier musical ensembles. Wilton residents who participate in the group include Barbara Apuzzo, Stephen Blinder, Nathan Briglin, Will DeSantis, Daniel Ely, Elliot Lipner, Julia Lipner, Mark Lyons, Peter Sprung, Kafesha Thomas and Dave McNamera. The ensemble, which is open to everyone regardless of musical ability, will perform at the Wilton Go-Green Festival on May 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. and at An Evening Under the Stars, a benefit for the Woodcock Nature Center on June 4. For more information, visit www.woodcocknaturecenter.org and www.wiltonsteel.org.

On another musical note, two Wilton High School students, Elizabeth Villarreal on oboe and Jennifer Lindner on timpani, will perform with the Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra at a concert on May 1 at 6 p.m. at Ridgefield High School and at a Musical Garden Party fundraiser for the orchestra at Bernard’s restaurant in Ridgefield on June 5. For more information, visit www.wctyo.org.

Maya Boreen and Ann Hoelzl are co-chairs of Minks to Sinks, the twice-yearly Wilton tag sale that begins May 7 at Route 7 and School Road. Other officers on the Minks to Sinks Auxiliary who volunteer all year in preparation for the events include Nicole Meek, treasurer; Yolanda Bonamo, assistant treasurer; Rosemarie Malcarney, assistant treasurer; and Kelly Weldon, corresponding secretary. Minks to Sinks benefits Family and Children’s Agency of Norwalk. See www.minkstosinks.info for more information.

People are talking about … Swizzles! It’s a welcome addition to Wilton’s dining options. The self-serve frozen yogurt café features a variety of flavors. Choose the amount of yogurt and toppings you want, have it weighed and enjoy it in the restaurant or at a table out front. Swizzles is across from Starbucks, in the back of the Stop & Shop Plaza. It is conveniently open late — perfect for moviegoers!
