WILTON, Conn. The Wilton Police Department will be out in force serving at the Outback Steakhouse on Danbury Road.
On Wednesday, Dec. 14, between 5 and 9 p.m., Wilton officers will act as servers and hosts at the restaurant to benefit Special Olympics athletes who live in Fairfield County. Tip-A-Cop envelopes will be left on tables for free-will donations at the end of the meal.
We are extremely grateful to the Wilton Police Department, said Debbie Horne, development director for Special Olympics Connecticut, Southwest. Its something they do every year. Theyre wonderful friends of the organization.
Horne said the officers do it all, from waiting and hosting to cleaning up and working in the kitchen.
The only donation the restaurant-goer makes is through the envelope on the table, and Horne said that is completely voluntary.
Wilton Police Lt. Donald Wakeman says officers have been waiting tables for charity at several locations for the past eight years. This year, around six officers will be participating at Outback Steakhouse, he said.
Reservation are not required, Horne said, but are probably a good idea.
