In a match that felt something like the Shorehaven club championship, Cameron Wilson defeated Tommy McDonagh in the semifinals of the Met Amateur Saturday at Quaker Ridge Country Club in Scarsdale, N.Y. Wilson, of Rowayton, and McDonagh, of Wilton, are both members of the Norwalk course.
Wilson will try to win his second straight Met Am title Sunday against Evan Beirne of New Haven. McDonagh is also a two-time winner of the Met Am.
Wilson won, 4-and-3, and never trailed in the match. He took the lead with a par on the third hole, and was 3-up after six holes. Wilson closed it out with a birdie on the 15th hole.
"The plan for tomorrow is to hit the ball better than I did today," Wilson said on the Metropolitan Golf Association website. Wilson is a graduate of St. Luke's and will attend Stanford University. The final match is 36 holes.
