What's For Lunch at Primrose School?

SOMERS, N.Y. - Second-grader Michael Carlson’s favorite lunch in the Primrose cafeteria is “the grilled cheese,” said his father, Shawn. “His least favorite is the tacos.” Michael added, “I don’t like spicy.”

Michael’s lunchbox is a blue and yellow Transformers box. Lunchboxes.com describes its Transformers box as, “more than meets the eye!” It promises that, “Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots, and the unpredictable Decepticons, will all protect your lunch when you take it to school, work, or out to play.”

It could be important to have a protected lunchbox if it has peanuts in it. The Primrose School has a nut-free classroom, according to Rori Coschigano, whose daughter, Kathryn, attends the school. “Children can bring them to eat in the cafeteria, but they don’t allow nuts as a snack.”

Five-year-old Sophie wanted a Despicable Me lunchbox but settled for a Hello Kitty box instead. Her mom likes to send lunch from home because she feels the cafeteria, “serves too much frozen food, like chicken nuggets and pizza.”

Attitudes about the food offered and the best lunchbox decorations may vary, but there is one thing most Primrose parents agree on -- it’s a great school. “They give you an email with updates of the events every day,” said Mrs. Coschigano.

While Sophie’s mom would love to have her children begin a foreign language because, “now is the time to pick it up,” she is nevertheless pleased with her daughter’s education. “The teachers give a lot of one-on-one attention. That’s really good.”
