What To Do This Weekend In Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Lots of live music will be happening this weekend to be enjoyed across the city. 

Friday, Sept, 28

  • The Frank Kohl Quartet: 7:30-10:30 p.m. The noted jazz guitarist will perform with his band. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Café, 201 S. Division St.
  • Stax Of Soul: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Stax of Soul performs the sweet soul music of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, Sam and Dave and Booker T & the MGs to name a few. Admission is a $5 for all, including diners. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.
  • Kings & Queens Touch of Class Hair Salon Grand Opening: 7-9 p.m. The event will feature lively entertainment with free food and wine. There will be drawings for complete hair makeovers and beauty gift baskets, and the shop will be offering 10 percent discounts for those who book an appointment at the event. 702 N. Division St.
  • Phineas and The Lonely Leaves: 10 p.m. The popular area band will perform a free live set. Birdsall House, 970 Main St.

Saturday, Sept. 29

  • Magnets!: 7:30-10:30 p.m. New York's own Kim Clarke performs on the acoustic bass, electric upright and four and five-stringed electric bass. In her 22-year tour affiliation with trombonist Joseph Bowie and his avant-jazz funk unit Defunkt, they have entertained audiences from Iceland to Istanbul. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S.   • Amos Lee: 8 p.m. Lee has opened for acts such as Norah Jones, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Merle Haggard, Van Morrison, John Prine, The Dave Matthews Band and Adele. His music has appeared on the soundtracks of numerous TV shows and movies. The show also will feature special guest Chris Kaspar. Tickets start at $75. Paramount Center for the Arts, 1008 Brown St.
  • The Police Files: A Tribute To The Police: 9:30 p.m.to 12:30 a.m. The Police Files are an authentic recreation of the sound and energy of The Police - one of the most musically influential and commercially successful rock bands of the 1980s. Admission is a $10 entertainment fee or $5 with a dinner entree. 12 Grapes, 12 N. Division St.

Sunday, Sept. 30

  • "La Traviata": 1 p.m. Filmed live at Arena di Verona, Italy. Albanian lyric soprano Ermonela Jaho, in the role of Violetta, is paired with Sardinian tenor Francesco Demuro as her impassioned lover, Alfredo. Admission is $20 for the general public. Paramount Center for the Arts, 1008 Brown St.
  • Larry Kolker: 5-7 p.m. Kolker's new CD, "Awful Smart Man", was released in July and was co-produced by himself and Fred Gillen Jr. The album reflects a journey of love, agony, discovery, acceptance and joy. It is receiving regular play on WIOX 91.3 FM. Admission is $5. BeanRunner Cafe, 201 S. Division St.
