Fairfield's spring break will finally arrive Wednesday, two days later than originally planned because of this winters snow. But parents still have three weekdays with their kids to fill. So heres a rundown of activities in and around Fairfield to check out:
? The Fairfield Museum and History Center has special events Thursday and Friday inspired by its current exhibit, From Sea to Shining Sea. Highlights include Nautical Nonsense on Thursday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., which invites kids to listen to captain Isaac Jennings stories from the sea and make their own scrimshaw etchings; as well as Global Villages, on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, which will take kids around the world via crafts and cooking. A full calendar is on the museums website.
? Though thunderstorms are in the forecast for Wednesday, the rest of the week should bring sunny skies, which means it will be perfect weather to check out a ballgame. The Bridgeport Bluefish will hold a spring training exhibition game Thursday starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. And Fairfield University and Sacred Hearts softball teams are scheduled to face off Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 at Fairfield.
? For science lovers, The Discovery Museum on the Fairfield-Bridgeport line has added extra sessions this week for spring vacation. The planetarium will put on shows each day at 11 a.m., 1 and 2 p.m., and the museums staff will perform special demonstrations each day at 12:15 and 3:30 p.m.
? For the animal fans, Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport has programs Wednesday and Thursday for kids and families. April Adventures is a morning camp from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in which kids get a behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo of $35 per day. And the Backyard Beasts show each afternoon starting at 1 p.m. features interaction with a live animal and crafts, and is free with admission.
? The Fairfield Library will be closed April 22 for Good Friday, but before then it's got activities for kids. Wednesday at 11 a.m. is Crafty Kids at the Fairfield Woods Branch, where kids can make a springtime art project. And both Wednesday and Thursday at 2 p.m. is the Vacation Film Fest, with a free movie for kids at Main Library on April 20 or the Woods Branch on April 21.
